'The Audition' is the episode that demonstrates Barry's structural intelligence at its peak. Bill Hader (who directed the episode alongside writing duties) runs all three of the season's major threads - the acting class's showcase audition, the Chechen crime escalation, and Detective Moss's investigation - into simultaneous convergence in a way that generates thriller tension from comedic material without betraying either register.
