The episode is the cleanest writing the season manages. 'The Final Problem' then commits to a completely different genre: gothic horror, a Holmes sister who had never been mentioned across three prior seasons, an underground facility built on seemingly impossible puzzles. The emotional through-line - family, suppression, what Sherlock cost himself to become - is legible on paper. The execution asks the viewer to accept rules the earlier seasons never established, and the logic collapses under that weight. The series ended on these three episodes, and the gap between its best hour and its weakest is the honest record of where it landed.
