What BollyAI Thinks

Season 4 is the show at its most morally serious and its most personally devastating. Four boys in a Baltimore middle school - Michael, Dukie, Randy, Namond - become proxies for every failure the series has been cataloguing: policing, the drug trade, city politics, now education. The school scenes have the density and compassion of the best social realism in any medium; the kids are written and performed without sentimentality and without cruelty. Carcetti wins the mayoralty; the political machine immediately begins to compromise him. The Marlo storyline advances with a coldness that is almost unbearable. Critics who placed this season among the greatest single seasons of any drama were not overstating it. RT at 100%; the show had become a reference point for what television could do.
